SOS Migrants – COVID-19

THE FOUNDATION CREATED IN MARCH 2020 THE PLATFORM SOS MIGRANTS AND BECOMES THE REFERENCE INSTITUTION TO RESPOND TO THE HUMANITARIAN CRISIS

The year 2020 was marked by the Covid-19. Dealing with the coronavirus crisis has been a real challenge! Indeed, the migrant population, already extremely vulnerable, has been deeply afftected by the pandemic and its consequences. Many people lost their jobs and this has had a domino effect with immediate repercussions on basic needs: food and housing. Fondation Orient-Occident therefore mobilized very quickly to respond to this emergency situation. Without the commitment and professionalism of all our staff, we would not have been able to respond to this humanitarian crisis in such an effective way. The creation, in 24 hours, of the SOS Migrants platform, at the very beginning of March 2020, made it possible to mobilise, day by day, our teams spread at the national level in our various centers in Rabat, Casablanca, Oujda, Tangier, Marrakech… Distribution of food baskets and vouchers, housing assistance, and psychological assistance have been the focal points of intervention.

The PsyFOO listening unit created by our psychologists in Rabat, Casablanca and Tangier has strengthened support and psychological listening already available to our beneficiaries. Our radio, the F-Radio also demostrated to be an extremely effective tool that gave migrants a voice and listened to their needs during this time. The Migrants du Monde workshop has perfectly fulfilled its mission by producing hundreds of face masks. The production of face masks allowed the women who work in the Atelier to continue working during this difficult time and also helped raising awareness on good practices to prevent the contamination of COVID. All this has been possible thanks to our partners who stood by our side during this year.

Many foreign and Moroccan institutions have provided financial assistance to support our beneficiaries in this period of crisis. We received many individual donations and many of our projects turned their focus on providing aemergency aid.
